Designed by the VCIM Web Students of Cuyahoga Community College
Each season the web design & development students design and build a website for a community area charity or small, charitable business. This year ABC Therapy, Ltd. was chosen. Their contributions to the well being of children in the Medina area, as well as charitable works in Haiti help to make the world a better place.
The students in the VCIM (Visual Communication/Interactive Media) program learn to strategize about the needs of each company, and then design and build a website. While learning about the technology, they are also focusing on how to work for clients and work as a team.
Here are the team members who worked on ABC Therapy’s site, listed alphabetically by their first names:
Alisha Wheat is currently studying Web design at Cuyahoga Community College. Her interest in the field emerged from her Digital Studio Basics class. Alisha finds coding fun and fascinating, especially when art is involved. She also likes to bake, draw anime, and hopes to someday travel outside the US.
Allie Salmons is currently enrolled at Tri-C studying Web & Interactive Media, concentrating in Web Design. She has always had great interest in technology, so she knew she would eventually find herself in a field that allowed her to work with technology and incorporate her creative side as well. When she is not studying/doing homework, Allie loves to read, watch Netflix, or spend time with her daughter.
Dana Silverman is a web design and development student at Cuyahoga Community College. ABC chose Dana’s design from the many beautiful layouts presented! She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in music therapy from Cleveland State University. Whenever she is not designing or coding away, you will find her walking her bichon frise dog, training for a half marathon, or cooking and baking homemade peanut butter blossom cookies.
Erika Staten is a proud mother of two. Her children are her everything. She even went back to college after ten years to set an example for them. She is an avid supporter of autism awareness and acceptance, as her son, is on the autism spectrum. Erika is currently a web development and interactive media design student at Cuyahoga Community College. She is a lover of all expressive creativity outlets and finds solace in painting, drawing and creating digital art. Erika aspires to one day be known for her art.
Eric Benson is a student in the Interactive Media and Web Design Certificate program. Prior to beginning this program, he completed a certificate in IT Help Desk and Networking Software, also from Tri-C. He volunteers with the media team at his church and has helped manage a WordPress website as well as various other personal and small business and non-profit websites for the past 2 years. Eric also has a B.S. degree and an M.A. in Foreign and Second Language Education. He taught for 12 years as a lecturer and ran a part-time property management business. He and his wife, Ryo Eun live in Cleveland Heights. They have 2 boys, Joe and Dan in graduate school.
Robyn Green graduated from Cuyahoga Community College in 2014 with a degree in Visual Communications and Design. She currently is a graphic designer and is taking classes in web design and interactive media to further her career. Although she enjoys the creative aspect of being a designer, Robyn also likes the technical aspects behind it, which is one of the reasons why she was attracted to web design. Robyn loves learning new things, snail mail, and playing superheroes with her nephews.
Angela is a long time designer and professor at Tri-C. She has also been front end developer and member of the web community since the early days of the internet. Angela is proud to teach at Tri-C, which has a tremendous impact on greater North East Ohio at many levels. She finds that teaching the next generation of designers and coders to use their skills while giving back to the community is particularly satisfying.
